Schools in the Area

Aside from the University of Virginia which is consistently regarded as one of the premiere public universities in the United States, other aspects of Charlottesville's education system have garnered praise. The public school system in the City of Charlottesville as well as Albemarle County continues to be regarded as a top system in the state of Virginia.

The schools in Charlottesville and Albermarle County have an approximate enrollment of 16,400 students in 21 elementary schools, six middle schools, and four comprehensive high schools. Charlottesville High School was at one time ranked by Newsweek magazine as one of the Top 500 high schools in the country.
